I am an internationally performing sitar player and a painter. I was born and brought up in Bangladesh, the 'land of rivers' in the tropics. The vibrant colors of nature and the flowing rivers played an important role in my romantic being. I grew up in Dhaka, a city with beautiful trees and houses with gardens. We lived in a small house that had lush green grounds with a fruit and flower garden. The natural surroundings had a significant effect on my connection with the beauty of nature, nurturing my artistic talents.
I have been drawn to watercolor painting since childhood. I was introduced to singing, which gradually led to my traditional training and study of Indian classical music on the sitar. At present, I am a professional sitar player. My watercolors resonate with the moods of the ragas that I play.
I did my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University, Bangladesh. I received the Best Watercolorist Award while studying there.
The deep connection of the spontaneity in technique and the improvisational character of Indian classical music and watercolor continues to inspire and fascinate me. The magical bonding and merging of the two art forms seem to be predestined.
I have presented my watercolor painting projections to enhance the moods of the ragas performed in my sitar concerts. in venues such as the Kennedy Center-Wash DC, The Purcell Room, South Bank Center, London, Hope University, Liverpool, Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka, Towson University, Towson, MD,
The titles of the paintings, showcased in the gallery, are the outcome of the initial feelings at the time of creation, which continuously keep flowing with fresh feelings in the river of my musical life.
My paintings are in a permanent exhibit in the private gallery at Sitar Niketan, Silver Spring, MD USA.
